Gentle yoga and stretching: choose by the session, not the label

Yoga classes can include movement, breathing and attention, while stretching sessions may focus more narrowly on movement range. In practice, class descriptions vary widely.

Read what actually happens

Ask about pace, time on the floor and standing balance. A label such as gentle does not guarantee the session fits you.

Match the goal to the format

If you want instruction in a particular limitation, a general class may not provide it. Seek individual support when needed.

Use comfort as feedback

Do not chase a pose because another participant goes further. Range differs between people and across days.

Try this today

Compare two class descriptions by their actual activities and accessibility rather than by their marketing names.

General wellbeing information, not medical advice. Yoga may not suit every condition. For pregnancy, injuries or health concerns, ask a qualified clinician and instructor about individual adaptations. Stop any practice that causes pain, dizziness or distress. NCCIH: yoga safety and evidence.
